Expeditions mid-walk, laps and miles

Expeditions start mid-walk

The mode used to be decided before the first step and never again. Set off on a plain walk, want zones a kilometre later, and your only route in was to finish the session and start over — throwing away the walk to get the game. Not much of a choice for someone already outside.

  • The offer comes to you, over the map, in the first seconds of a session. A strip along its bottom edge shows how long it will stay: a banner that vanishes without warning reads as a glitch rather than a decision.
  • The permanent way in is a page of its own under the map, next to your stats and splits. Missed the banner, or had the phone in a pocket the whole time — swipe the carousel across.
  • Your progress is kept. The session doesn't pause for a moment: distance, time and route stay yours, and zones to claim appear on top of them.
  • It can't be switched back off, and we say so before the tap rather than after: claimed zones are already counted, so "undo the game" would mean either lying about the mode or taking back what you earned.
  • Fog and exploration XP were always being earned — on any outdoor session, not only expeditions. What an expedition adds is the zone game itself, not the map underneath it.

Manual laps

A kilometre split closes where the kilometre ends. The loop round your block, a flight of stairs, a warm-up circuit — those end where you decide they do, and until now that meant memorising numbers off the screen while still moving.

  • A button on the tracker cuts a lap and puts its time, distance and pace on screen straight away — announced the same way the app announces a kilometre.
  • Two independent series. A lap never shifts the kilometre splits and a kilometre never closes a lap: each keeps its own time, distance, heart rate and cadence.
  • The list of laps appears as its own tab after the first cut, and stays in the workout detail afterwards, alongside the splits, the heart-rate zones and the export for AI.
  • The button shows the lap you're in, and it ticks up under your thumb as you press. It doubles as the count of laps already marked.
  • A stray touch won't create one — too short a lap is refused, and the feedback for that is different, so you can tell without looking.

Miles instead of kilometres

  • A switch in Settings → Personalisation converts the whole app: distances, pace, speed, elevation gain and weight.
  • The splits become real mile splits. Not a kilometre split with a new label on it: the mile is closed live, as you go, so "1 mile" is genuinely a mile rather than 1000 metres in another unit.

Reach boosts

  • A charge showed up but wouldn't spend. The button said you had one; tapping it bounced you to the recharge page with "not enough yet". The counter on the button and the tap itself were reading the daily pool through different settings, and they disagreed by a whole charge, not a shade.
  • "Zones to your next charge" counted the wrong period — the current session instead of the whole day, even though the charge is granted for the day. Hence "3 of 5" at a moment when the charge had already been handed out.
  • Subscription limits weren't always applied. If the expedition screen opened onto an already-running session — coming back from the mini-player, restarting the app — boost settings stayed on the free defaults, recharge threshold included.
